The CCTCC Provincial Clinical Trial Organizations’ Meetings bring together representatives from both Provincial and other pan-Canadian organizations working in the clinical trial and research field. Since November 2015, three in-person meetings have been held.

The purpose of the meetings is to:

  • Foster collaboration among organizations working in the clinical trial and research field
  • Identify emerging issues in the Canadian Clinical Trial field and discuss possible solutions
  • Engage the organizations in ongoing and upcoming CCTCC projects and prevent duplication of effort

The first meeting, held in November 2015, brought the organizations together to set the stage for future collaboration and to examine current challenges and opportunities that affected both individual organizations and the Canadian clinical trials field as a whole This was the first time in Canada representatives from Provincial Clinical trial Organizations across the country were brought together around the same table. A second meeting of the Provincial Clinical Trial Organizations’ was held on April 1, 2016. In addition to updates on ongoing CCTCC projects and initiatives and round-table updates, there were presentations from CTO on their Streamlined Research Ethics Review System and BCCRIN on their Clinical Research Participation Survey . In the most recent meeting, on November 21, 2016, the scope has expanded to include presentations from TransCelerate BioPharma Inc.,  and the Huntington Society of Canada on their National Clinical Trial Strategy as well as provincial updates. ON – Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO)

Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO) is an independent not-for-profit organization established with support from the Government of Ontario. Our mandate is to work collaboratively with the clinical trials community, the public and strategic partners to improve Ontario’s clinical trials environment and attract clinical trial investment to the province, while supporting the highest ethical and quality standards.

QC – Montreal InVivo

Montréal InVivo is an economic development organization dedicated to the creation of a business environment that fosters innovation and growth of companies and organizations in the life sciences and health technologies (LSHT) sector.

BC – British Columbia Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (BCCRIN)

The British Columbia Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (BCCRIN) is a collaborative partnership of provincial health authorities, universities, industry associations and funding agencies. BCCRIN is focused on transforming the clinical research and clinical trial landscape in British Columbia, thereby enhancing our ability to compete in what has become a highly competitive global marketplace for clinical research.

NB – Clinical Trials NB, Horizon Health Network & Vitalité Health Network 

Health research is a core component of Horizon Health Network’s mission. We facilitate and promote research opportunities throughout the region and provide services to our health-care professionals. Our mandate is to encourage new research projects, support ongoing research, develop research partnerships and foster the integration of diverse research and medical programs. From submitting study applications to sharing research results, our goal is to provide guidance and services for applied health and clinical trials research.

NS – Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA)

The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) champions advances in therapy, multi-disciplinary approaches to patient care, teaching and innovative health research taking place on the frontlines of patient care. Our advanced technologies and well developed telehealth networks enable researchers to include patients in remote areas.


The IWK Health Centre is a global leader in research, innovation and knowledge sharing that directly improves the health and well-being of women, children and families throughout the Maritimes and across the world. Our practice is rooted in a collaborative model that integrates talented people with new technologies, research, training, and clinical excellence. The IWK’s vibrant research community attracts outstanding leaders including nurses, psychologists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists, to name a few.

AB – Alberta Innovates

As the newly formed Alberta Innovates Corporation, we still fund top quality, internationally competitive health research and innovation activities to improve the health and well being of Albertans. We provide leadership for Alberta’s health research and innovation enterprise by directing, coordinating, reviewing, funding and supporting research and innovation. Working with our many partners in the health system, we ensure that research achieves innovation in care, policy and practice, and that the needs of patients and clinicians influence research.

SK – Clinical Trial Support Unit – University of Saskatchewan

The Clinical Trial Support Unit (CTSU) is a centralized clinical research resource that standardizes clinical and administrative procedures for the conduct of human research. The CTSU, a joint initiative of the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine, the Saskatoon Health Region and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, provides investigators at the three member institutions with the resources and know-how needed to conduct clinical research. It does so in a manner that withstands legal scrutiny and follows good clinical practice guidelines.

MB – Research Manitoba

Research Manitoba provides funds for research in the health, natural and social sciences, engineering and the humanities in Manitoba through a number of grants and awards programs from moneys received from the Province.

MB – George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation 

The George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) collaborates with clinicians, researchers, leadership and policy makers to generate and apply patient-oriented research in the health system and health policy environments. As a partnership between University of Manitoba and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, CHI provides seven platforms which offer research expertise and services to facilitate development and implementation of evidence-based initiatives that improve care and outcomes for Manitobans.

Pan-Canadian – N2 

The Network of Networks (N2) is a not-for-profit incorporated organization and an alliance of Canadian research networks and organizations working to enhance national clinical research capability and capacity.  Bringing together trialists and clinical research professionals from across the country, N2 provides a common platform for sharing best practices, resources and research-related content to ensure efficient and high-quality research, integrity of clinical practices and accountability.  The organization is truly representative of clinical research in Canada and acts as a national voice and advocate on behalf of a broad range of stakeholders that have an impact on the efficiency and quality of clinical trials conducted in Canada.

Pan-Canadian – NAPHRO 

The National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations (NAPHRO) brings together ten organizations with a mandate to support the health research enterprise in their respective provinces. NAPHRO members operate within different political, operational, legal and financial contexts and have unique relationships with their stakeholders – provincial ministries, provincial research ecosystems, federal granting councils and departments, and the charitable sector. This diversity is a major strength of the alliance. NAPHRO is an executive level forum that meets once a quarter to address issues, opportunities and challenges confronting the health research enterprise across the country.
