Dr. Pamela Valentine – Ph.D
In April 2013, Pamela Valentine became the Chief Operating Officer at Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions (AIHS), responsible for overseeing AIHS’s investments in health research excellence, developing support strategies for AIHS’s unique alignment with the health system, leading major research platform collaborations, and building multi-sectoral strategic partnerships provincially and nationally. She also ensures effective internal operations and implementation of AIHS’ strategic direction through leadership of the senior management team.
Prior to her appointment as COO, Dr. Valentine was AIHS’s Acting CEO for the first quarter of 2013. She was the organization’s Vice-President Research & Innovation for three years previously, overseeing a portfolio that included research and innovation support programs, ethics and systems innovation platform initiatives, knowledge translation and performance management and evaluation activities. She joined AIHS in 2006 as Assistant Director, Grants and Awards and was appointed as Director, Grants and Awards in 2008. Before joining AIHS, Dr. Valentine served on faculty in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary and as a member of the Epilepsy and Brain Circuits Program at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.
Among her numerous honours and awards, Dr. Valentine has received recognition for her work by the Canadian Psychological Association, Neuroscience Canada Foundation, Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada and Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research.
She participates on many boards and committees, notably the Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI) Executive Council and Alberta’s Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) steering committee. Dr. Valentine represents the province at strategy meetings of the National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations.
