Dr. Robert McMaster – Ph.D, MSc, BSc

Dr. McMaster received a Bachelor and Master of Science from UBC, which was followed by a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford. He joined UBC’s Department of Medical Genetics in 1982. He was appointed in 2000 as Head of the Department of Medical Genetics and Head of Medical Genetics for the Women’s Health Centre for British Columbia (effective until June 30, 2010). Dr. McMaster was also Director of the

Immunity and Infection Research Centre at VCH Research Institute and Director of Transplant Immunology for British Columbia Transplant until being appointed as Interim Executive Director, VCHRI. Dr. McMaster was also the Associate Dean, Research, and Executive Director, of VCHRI from 2010 to 2011.

Dr. McMaster’s research interests are in the areas of molecular immunology, parasitology and transplant immunology. He has received continuous peer review support for his research, and currently holds grants from the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) and is co-lead on a multi-million dollar initiative “Biomarkers in Transplantation” with funding from Genome Canada/Genome BC and the PRevention Of epidemic Organ Failure (PROOF) Centre of Excellence. He is actively involved with national and international granting agencies including the World Health Organization, CIHR and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, serving as Chair of the Research Advisory Council, and also currently serves as Scientific Officer for the Cl HR Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Grant Committee.
